The importance and virtue of Hajj in Islam

The special grace of Allah Almighty towards the believing servant is that He has bestowed upon him some acts of worship by which the servant receives his spiritual star, peace and tranquility of heart and food and blessings of this world and the Hereafter. One of these is Hajj. Hajj is the fifth pillar of Islam. Just as prayer, fasting, and zakat are obligatory acts of worship, so too Hajj is one of the most blessed and obligatory duties for financially and physically able Muslim men and women. Hajj is an Arabic word. Meaning: To intend, to visit, to resolve, to seek, to meet, to desire or to promise, to desire a great deed. In the terminology of Shari'ah, Hajj is the pilgrimage to the Holy House of God, the Ka'bah, in order to perform the obligatory acts of the Almighty and to perform certain acts within the prescribed time limit of Hajj in the hope of gaining nearness and satisfaction of Allah. Allah says (interpretation of the meaning): “It is obligatory upon Allah to perform Hajj for every person who is able to reach Makkah” (Surah Al 'Imran, verse 96). ‘Perform Hajj and Umrah for the sake of Allah’ (Surah Al-Baqara, verse: 198). Allah the Almighty said, ‘When I said to Ibraaheem (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) about the place of the House, do not associate anyone with Me and keep my house holy for those who circumambulate. And proclaim the Hajj among the people, and they will come to you on foot and on camels and in all kinds of vehicles from afar '(Surah Hajj, verses 27-28).

Hajj is obligatory in the ninth Hijri. The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) performed Hajj with his family once in the 10th Hijri. It is obligatory for every Muslim man and woman who is able to reach Makkah to perform Hajj once in a lifetime. It has been narrated in a hadith that Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated that once the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) addressed us. He said, O man! Allah has made Hajj obligatory upon you. So perform Hajj. One person said, O Messenger of Allah! Do I have to perform Hajj every year? He was silent and the man asked three times like this. Then the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said, 'If I had said yes, it would have been obligatory to perform Hajj every year, but it would not have been possible for you to do it' (Muslim, Hadith: 1336). It is mustahab to perform Hajj repeatedly. The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said, ‘Whoever performs Hajj once, more than once, it will be nafl for him’ (Ibn Majah, hadeeth: 26, Abu Dawood hadeeth: 1821).

In the hadith, it has been urged and commanded to perform Hajj only when it is obligatory. Hazrat Ibn Abbas (R.) said, the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said, ‘Do not delay in performing the obligatory Hajj. Because none of you know what will happen in your next life '(Sunan Kubra Bayhaqi 4/340, Musnad Ahmad, Hadith: 26). In another narration, it has been narrated that Ibn 'Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said, "Whoever wishes to perform Hajj, let him do it as soon as possible." Because at any time he may get sick or he may not have any means of transportation or he may face some other problem '(Ibn Majah, Hadith: 263; Abu Dawood, Hadith: 1832).

In a hadith Qudsi, Allah has described a well-to-do person who does not perform the Hajj of Sattar as miserable and deprived. Narrated Abu Saeed Khudri: The Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, said, "Allah said, 'I have kept the body of my servant healthy, and I have given him abundance in sustenance and earning.' If he does not come to my house for Hajj even after five years, then he is unfortunate and deprived '(Tabarani, Hadith: 490; Sunan Kubra Bayhaqi 5/272; Ibn Hibban, Hadith: 3695; Musnad Abu Yala, Hadith: 1031; Yawaid, Hadith: 5259). Not only that, once the Baitullah Sharif is taken away, people will not be able to perform Hajj because of this fear, the Messenger of Allah has ordered the Ummah to perform Hajj immediately. Narrated Ibn Umar: The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said, ‘Take advantage of the House of Allaah through Hajj and 'Umrah. Because it has been destroyed twice before. It will be taken away after the third time '(Ibn Hibban, Hadith: 617; Ibn Khuzaima, Hadith: 2506; Musnad Bazar, Hadith: 1062; Mustadrake Hakim, Hadith: 1852).

Anyone who denies the necessity or obligation of Hajj will be considered a non-Muslim. And if a competent person does not perform Hajj even though it is obligatory, then he will fall into a grave sin and his faith will be ruined. The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said, ‘I do not know whether the death of one who neglects the obligatory Hajj will be based on faith. Strict warnings have been given in the hadith about a person who does not perform Hajj despite having the strength and financial means to perform Hajj. Whoever is able to perform Hajj but does not perform Hajj, whether he dies as a Jew or a Christian does not matter to Allah '(Tirmidhi, Hadith 612, Tafsir Ibn Kathir 1/56).

The virtues of Hajj

Hajj is a financial and physical act of worship. That is why Allah has made it very virtuous. Many hadiths have been narrated about the virtues of Hajj. Many virtues of Maqbool Hajj have been described in Hadith Sharif. The believer shows his deep love for Allah and His Messenger by visiting Baitullah Sharif and visiting Rawza Mubarak. According to some hadiths, Hadrat Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) said: I heard the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) say: Returned home as innocent '(Bukhari, Hadith: 1521; Muslim, Hadith: 1350). He further says; Once the umrah is performed and the second umrah is performed, the sins between the two umrahs are forgiven by Allah. And the only reward of Hajj Mabrur or virtuous Hajj is Jannat '(Bukhari, Hadith: 183; Muslim, Hadith: 1349; Tirmidhi, Hadith: 933; Nasai, Hadith: 2629; Ibn Majah, Hadith: 26). The purpose of the accepted Hajj is a Hajj which is performed in accordance with the Sunnah, in order to be free from sins and transgressions (interpretation of Riyadh Chalehin H / 1281). Hajj is not limited to physical worship, but Hajj also forgives the sins of the servant. As a result, the burden of Hajj performers is lightened and poverty is alleviated. However, Hajj should be for the sole purpose of gaining the pleasure of Allah. There can be no ritual in it. The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: It is narrated on the authority of 'Abdullah ibn Masood (may Allaah be pleased with him) that he said: The Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: Perform Hajj and' Umrah again and again. In the same way these two acts of worship remove poverty and sin. And the only reward of Hajj Mabrur or virtuous Hajj is Jannat '(Tirmidhi, Hadith: 610; Nasai, Hadith: 2631).

Hazrat Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) said: The Messenger of Allah (may peace be upon him) was asked: What is the greatest deed? He said, "Believe in Allah and His Messenger." The questioner said, then what action? He said, "Jihad in the way of Allah." The questioner said, then what action? He said, "The best and most beautiful jihad for you is the Hajj, that is, the Hajj of Mabrur (accepted Hajj)" (Bukhari, Hadith: 28; Muslim, Hadith: 63; Tirmidhi, Hadith: 1857).

Narrated from Hazrat Ayesha (RA). He said, ‘O Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him)! We consider jihad to be the best period. So we will not do jihad? He said, "The best and most beautiful jihad for you is Hajj, that is, Hajj of Mabrur" (Bukhari, Hadith: 1520).

Hazrat Ibn 'Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) said, "I heard the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, say,' Allah prescribes to the pilgrim a good deed or a sin. ' Or raise a status' (Ibn Hibban, Hadith: 18; Shuabul Iman, Bayhaqi, Hadith: 4116). Sahl ibn Sa'd al-Assaydi (may Allah be pleased with him) said: The Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, said: When a person recites the talbiyyah, he has the talbiyyah on his right and left till the end of the earth, such as plants, soil and stones. ) Tirmidhi, Hadith: 628; Ibn Majah, Hadith: 2921).
